RE: The tariff classification of Tasimelteon (CAS No. 609799-22-6) in bulk form, from China
Dear Mr. Thompson:
In your letter dated January 3, 2020, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
Tasimelteon is a selective agonist for the melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2. It is indicated for the treatment of non-24-hour sleep/wake disorder. You state SST will be importing about 100 grams of Tasimelteon for evaluation by U.S. pharmaceutical companies to develop generic drug products.
The applicable subheading for the Tasimelteon in bulk form will be 2937.90.9000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, natural or reproduced by synthesis; derivatives and structural analogues thereof, including chain modified polypeptides, used primarily as hormones: Other: Other.” The rate of duty will be free.
